Description
The Holy Prophet Moses was most dear to the Lord God precisely because he “was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth” (Num 12:3). Moses was saved from death as an infant when his mother, Jochebel, put him in a basket of rushes so the midwives would not follow the order of the Pharaoh to kill every male child born of the Hebrews. The daughter of the Pharaoh found Moses and raised him as her son.
When Moses was 40 he killed an Egyptian who was smiting a Hebrew, and when it was known, fled to Midian. There he settled, married, had children, and when 80 had a vision of the Lord in a Burning Bush and was commanded to return to Egypt to free the Hebrews from bondage and lead them to the Land of Canaan. Moses led His People out of Egypt with mighty signs and wonders, led them through the wilderness for 40 years, and gave them the Ten Commandments and the Law by God’s Word. He is called the God-seer because he once saw the backside of God. He is also called the Friend of God as God spoke to him face to face. Mighty in meekness and love, Moses died near Canaan at 120 years old.
